Battery Startup Enevate to expand production facilities

California-based battery startup Enevate has signed a lease for over 125,000 square feet in Irvine, California.

The new facility is meant to greatly increase the company’s battery pre-production line for conducting trials for companies aiming for industrial-scale battery production.

With the expanded pre-production line, the company will enable the manufacture of industry-standard size 21700 cylindrical cells, as well as large EV pouch cells for research and customer sampling.

“With Enevate’s expanding customer base, increased number of projects, and more employees we simply ran out of room at our current facility…This is a major milestone for the company during a very exciting time in mobility as the world transitions to electric vehicles.”

Enevate CEO Robert A. Rango

At over 125,000 square feet, the new production space marks a substantial increase in the company’s existing production space of 20,000 square feet at UCI Research Park. The new facilities should be ready to move into before the end of this year.

The Startup is continuing to hire new staff, most especially scientists and engineers. The expanded facility is located in Irvine, California which the company says is in the heart of the Southern California electric vehicle hub.

Enevate claims to have more than 400 patents granted or in the process of registration. The company markets its know-how by licensing its intellectual property to third parties. At the end of 2018, the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance took a stake in Enevate.
