Lightning eMotors places big battery systems order with Proterra

Lightning eMotors has contracted Proterra to supply battery systems. The order is for a total capacity of more than 900 megawatt hours for use in up to 10,000 electric commercial vehicles between 2022 and 2025.

The new order builds on the partnership between the two companies announced in March and expands it to include batteries for additional vehicle types.

As Proterra now announced, the batteries from the current order are to be used in class 4 and 5 electric utility vehicles.

To be precise, these will be the Lightning Electric E-450 and Lightning Electric F-550 models. Both models are available in their respective size classes as shuttle buses or as delivery vehicles with box bodies.

“We are thrilled to be expanding our relationship with Proterra to power our class 4 and 5 platforms,” said Chelsea Ramm, vice president of global supply chain at Lightning eMotors. “Proterra battery packs are rightfully perceived by the market as a quality product which gives us both peace of mind for our customers and helps us during the sales process.”
