Great news for the citizen of Hamburg in Germany. Mercedes-Benz has handed over one eCitaro G electric bus with solid state batteries each to Hamburger Hochbahn and Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein. They are the first all electric buses that will be on the roads of Hamburg. If you are interested in more orders of the amazing eCitaro bus checkout our other article about their big order in Poland.
The two new Buses are scheduled to enter the regular passenger service in the coming days. Both electric buses are part of larger orders:
Mercedes-Benz is about to supply 37 eCitaro to Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein and 34 eCitaro to Hamburger Hochbahn. If you are in the Area then expect to see more electric Buses in Hamburg soon.
The two new electric buses each have seven battery packs with solid electrolyte and an energy content of 441 kWh. The Bolloré subsidiary Blue Solutions from France is the supplier of the solid-state batteries.
The range of the buses is almost 200 kilometres. This is guaranteed by the manufacturer but as we know it will depend on the operating conditions. The Buses have a length of 18 metres and can carry around 100 passengers. The electric buses will be charged via a plug in the depot. I wonder if they will add some mobile charging stations in the future.
The transport companies in Hamburg are purchasing a total of 94 e-buses over the coming 12 months. Since 2020 Hochbahn and VHH have been ordering electric buses exclusively. No more diesel engines. They did not only order from Mercedes Benz but also from MAN, Irizar, Volvo and Solaris.
