TotalEnergies to install 800 Charging Stations in Belgium, powered by Green Energy

The French energy company TotalEnergies has won a tender from the city of Ghent to install 800 new charging points by 2025. The deal also includes that TotalEnergies will operate them for ten years. For TotalEnergies, this is already the third such order from a major Belgian city.

The exact locations of the 800 new charging points have not yet been determined. The municipality of Ghent and TotalEnergies have agreed to allow individuals and businesses in the district to submit applications to install a charging point near their premises or workplaces.

“This extension of our public charging infrastructure is intended to provide a solution for drivers who do not have their own charging station either at home or at work. By 2022, the number of charging stations will increase significantly so that we can support the transition to electric mobility.”

Filip Watteeuw, Deputy Mayor of Ghent in charge of mobility

This will include residents, taxi companies, car sharing companies and local businesses.  In addition to these location proposals, the city wants to analyze the use of existing charging points in districts with high demand and to add new points to reinforce the existing infrastructure.

TotalEnergies’ charging points are to be powered exclusively by green electricity generated in an offshore wind power plant off the coast of Belgium.

“This partnership rewards the quality of our EV charging offering and the commitment of our teams, fully focused on our customers and future users.” … “This new contract contributes to the acceleration of our transformation into a broad energy company.”
