New EV Van Platform from Mercedes to Include Electric Camper Van Offering

Mercedes-Benz has announced plans to create an electric camper van, part of a broader effort to launch new midsize and large vans using a fresh platform called Van Electric Architecture, or VAN.EA.

This versatile architecture will serve as the foundation for a variety of van types, whether they’re used for business or personal luxury, including campers, delivery vans, ambulances, and more.

Mercedes-Benz Vans aims to set a new standard in the camper van industry, partnering with global businesses to offer a line of fully electric midsize and large camper vans built on the VAN.EA platform.

According to the company, the new VAN.EA architecture will simplify production and improve battery capacity and driving range, targeting a distance of over 500 kilometers per charge.

By 2030, Mercedes-Benz hopes that half of its van sales will be fully electric and aims to capture a significant market share in the luxury van segments in both China and the U.S.

Mathias Geisen, who heads Mercedes-Benz Vans, said the unified VAN.EA architecture will streamline its offerings, saying it meets its goal to “Lead in Electric” while providing maximum value to customers.

The company will offer a VAN.EA-P variant, aimed at private use like family vans or VIP shuttles, and a commercial VAN.EA-C variant, featuring a modular design that can be customized based on customer needs.
