Lightning-Fast Battery from China’s CATL Promises 400km Range Increase in Less Time Than It Takes to Drink a Latte

The rapid charging speed offered by CATL’s new Shenxing battery has the potential to be a game-changer in the electric vehicle industry. 

Ten minutes to add 400 kilometers of range would make electric vehicles far more convenient and could be a critical factor in accelerating their adoption. 

This rapid charge rate could make electric cars far more practical for long journeys and could also help people without access to home charging solutions. This effectively levels the playing field between electric vehicles and traditional gasoline or diesel vehicles in terms of refueling convenience.

Another important feature is the battery’s resilience to temperature, specifically the ability to charge up to 80% in 30 minutes even at temperatures as low as -10°C. Since temperature sensitivity has been a significant issue with existing battery technologies, this new development could make electric vehicles more practical in a wider range of climates.

Moreover, the high energy density indicated by a range of 700 kilometers on a single charge would be another significant selling point. 

This would put the driving range of electric vehicles powered by Shenxing batteries in the same league as many internal combustion engine vehicles, potentially eliminating ‘range anxiety’ for many prospective EV buyers.
